Welcome to Eastern Tennessee U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services, where we serve with United Strength, United Vision. This district is one of the largest in the United States. Our headquarters office is located in Knoxville. We also have offices located in the federal courthouses in Chattanooga, and Greeneville.

An officer conducting fieldwork in our district can experience the challenge of locating a residence in a small, remote rural community; visiting a high-rise metropolitan condominium, and discussing available community resources with someone experiencing great hardships in the heart of a low-income area of a large city - all in one day! Bureau Of Prison facilities are located in Nashville and Memphis Tennessee.

Our Vision is to exemplify the highest level of innovation, ideals, leadership, and standards while setting the national benchmark for United States Probation and Pretrial Services. As a District, we focus on the individual strengths each employee brings to the job each day to accomplish our mission. Our goal is to assist defendants and offenders in recognizing how they can best use their own strengths to lead successful, meaningful lives.

Mission Statement

We, the members of Probation and Pretrial Services for the Eastern District of Tennessee, believe that as a component of the federal judiciary, we are responsible for community corrections. Furthermore, we are committed to providing services that facilitate positive, long-lasting change.

  • We are fundamentally committed to providing a reduction in detention through the creation and recommendation of alternative conditions which will reasonably assure the appearance of the person as required.
  • We are fundamentally committed to the objective assessment of the defendant’s background obtained through interview, verification, and presentation of information to the Court. In providing supervision services to the Court, we seek to foster balance by ensuring the safety of the community and the utilization of other techniques and strategies that are consistent with our duties and our responsibilities.

Strengths Philosophy

We are a strengths-based organization. We strive to provide a learning environment rich in opportunities for personal and professional development. Each staff member will use their personal strengths to continuously improve the organization for the benefit of the community.
